Envisioning Corals future developments
The Envisioning Corals experience: future developments and new release
The Envisioning Corals application uses XR technology and behavioral science strategies to address coral bleaching. The application offers a unique perspective through an embodiment approach, taking into account psychological factors for optimal learning and comfort.
However our main goal is to create a scalable virtual environment that can be used as a complementary teaching tool in educational settings with standalone headsets, smartphones or cardboard. In order to do so, we aim at developing further optimization strategies and various demos of our project.
An example is the introduction of a fourth game character, a human snorkeler, that will be added to the application, encouraging users to collect polluting objects while attempting to counteract the bleaching phenomenon. Restoring the human perspective and tightening the gap between awareness and the actual behavior.
In terms of scalability, the development roadmap includes the release of a freeware version for schools, which includes only one ecosystem (coral reef). A full version of the application will be available on different marketplaces for further usage. Furthermore, the team’s idea is to offer, in the future, several ecosystems, such as the Mediterranean Sea, Arctic Sea, and lacustrine settings to raise awareness among a wider set of environments.
